Welcome to Niskayuna Fire District No. 1.
Located in the Capital District of New
York State, Niskayuna Fire District No.
1 is protected by a combination of
dedicated career and volunteer
firefighters, paramedics, and emergency
medical technicians. The
district's 15 career
firefighter/paramedics and 30 volunteer
firefighters and EMT's work side by side
24 hours a day, 7 days a week to protect
the citizens of Niskayuna and
those who work and travel through the
community. The volunteer members
of NFD1 were originally organized as the
Grand Boulevard Fire Company (GBFC) and
have maintained the fire company's
identity to this day.
The career division of NFD1 is comprised of 15
firefighter/paramedics who are members
of the Niskayuna
Professional Firefighters Association (NPFA)
. The blend of career and volunteer personnel allows
for a rapid response of highly trained
personnel to all types
of hazards and emergencies including fires, medical
emergencies, motor vehicle collisions
and other rescue situations.
Fire District personnel operate out of two stations
within the district. The headquarters is
located at
1079 Balltown Road and is currently staffed 24/7
by three career firefighter paramedics.
The Fire Chief also works out of the
Balltown Road Station weekdays. The
River Road Station, located just east of the
intersection of Balltown Road and River
Road, is staffed Monday through Friday
8:00am to 4:30pm by a career
firefighter/paramedic. The
volunteer members respond from home or
work to either station depending
on their location at the time of the
call.
